Rakuten / TEKsystems

Hi,

I am a software engineer with 9 years of experience. I received an offer from TEKsystems to work as a contractor for Rakuten, with a salary of 9 million yen. I did some research on Glassdoor regarding TEKsystems and found some negative feedback about Rakuten. Many comments mentioned that there are a lot of Indian employees, which seems to create a mix of Indian and Japanese work cultures.

I’m wondering if anyone can confirm these experiences or share their thoughts on working there. Also, do you recommend TEKsystems?

Additionally, I’m not very familiar with the IT market in Japan. Will 9 million yen allow me to live comfortably in Tokyo, including being able to travel?

Thanks in advance!

  1. 9 mil is a good salary working at a contractor in Rakuten. Plenty to rent a decent place with spare money to travel. For TEKsystems, I worked with them in past and found them dishonest about some of the roles I had interview with. They just want to push you to a role instead of looking out for the best role for you.

For Rakuten, it depends on the team. Some has a mix of Indians and Japanese esp. if it is a tech role. It is better to find out your immediate boss, as this might lead to whether you work more regular hours or overtime.

  2. Salary is decent, make sure it’s seishain and not a contractor role.

As for teksystems, years of working with them. I see them as a mid to low tier Indian consulting shop focused on IT and integration side. They fill bodies in seats and don’t care about their employees. As the customer side; technical leaders that rotate out every few months and a lot of new / green swe’s filling butts in seats roles that also rotate through quickly. Hope is that projects get finished before the individuals get burned out, or find the right ones to direct hire if the contract allows it.

Better than tcs…maybe on par with wipro.
