Hello! My fiancee and I are planning to get married during April of next year ideally in Kyoto. We are looking to have the ceremony at a temple (he is Japanese) that allows the capacity for about 70 people, I know this number is quite big as most of the temples we've looked at allow maximum 40 guests, we have been struggling to find one that fits our needs. If you have any recommendations we would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance

Seems like 平安神社 advertises itself as a place where you can have a wedding of 100 people or more.

I had my wedding there with fewer than 70 guests, but I think they can accommodate more.
You can book just the ceremony and arrange dining / lunch elsewhere afterward. There’s no need to purchase their full package, including kimono rental or catering, if you don’t want to.
This funny saying “Japanese are born Shinto, married Christian, and die Buddhist” is a little off here, but it’s true Buddhist rituals are generally for end of life events unless the family is specifically tied to a Buddhist sect.
The Christian thing is mostly for young couples doing trendy weddings, and a lot of people still do Shinto weddings but I just thought that you should know you’d be getting married in a Shinto shrine, not a Buddhist temple.
