Writing this post to see what "cognates" people have been able to identify, I always get such a kick when a find one. I don't mean katakana, so they're often not perfect, but for example..:
缶 —> can
講座 —> almost sounds like katakana "course"
Not necessarily in English, any other concurrences with different languages would also be super interesting to find out about!
