Who (girls) is taller than 170cm is it difficult to get clothes

As the title says, is it true that it’s quite a challenge to get proper clothes since you’re much taller than an average Japanese woman? Same struggle with shoes? Thinking about moving there gets me a bit unnerved because I’m 176cm, how do you deal with it?

  1. I’m somewhere between 174 and 175 CM and you’re definitely right. Clothing is definitely shorter here and the sizes can be bizzare for us women. Honesty, Shein, Lulus, Amazon US and Asos are my saving graces. For shoes, I buy shoes online or buy the men’s sneakers at Don Quixote. I’ve had the best luck with more feminine shoes on Shein and Amazon.

  2. I’m not even that tall and I order most of my clothes from abroad since the local stuff is just a tad too short or fits weird.

  3. Yes, it would be. Everything is made for a very specific body and it is short and small. If you are tall or heavy, you will have a hard time finding clothes.

  4. I’m 183cm and bottoms are impossible 🥲 I get my clothes when I’m not in Japan

  5. I’m only 167 and dress shoes are absolutely impossible… I wear size 26 and I basically just buy them from abroad. (For sneakers I can wear “men’s” but it doesn’t work as well for dress shoes)

  6. I’m not tall but chubby and imo the issue isn’t getting clothes that fit but clothes that fit *properly.* Japanese clothes just have one size fits most dimensions so if you’re tall you might seriously struggle getting stuff that looks right when you wear it.

  7. Yes. I am a tall woman also and I struggle to find trousers that are long enough for my legs among other things.

  8. I’m 176cm also and it’s a struggle. Zara is here luckily and mostly where I shop now. Uniqlo also has bottoms in special long lengths. I basically get all my pants by ordering online from those 2. And when you find something that fits you well, buy it in a few different colours haha.

  9. I’m 175. Pants are short, most long skirts are mid length but for the most part i don’t have trouble getting clothes. Sleeves are nice and long. I gave up on jeans though. Uniqlo used to have really long pants 😭 they changed their tailoring, it’s just crap now

  10. I mostly get my clothes when I’m overseas. Uniqlo isn’t terrible for trousers. Banana Republic for work styles.

Shoes are a struggle. Some branches of Marui have bigger sizes. Oriental Traffic is a chain with larger sizes, but I don’t love the quality and I spent most of the day on my feet so I prefer something cushioned!

During COVID I ordered from an online store called Seven and a Half, but they were on the more expensive side. Vivaia carry up to 27.5 and I find them comfortable for work.
