Hello everyone,
my husband and I have already booked our 2nd trip to Ishigaki.
During our stay there, we’d like to take a day trip to another island, but I really don’t know which one to choose.
We plan to neither rent a car nor join a hiking/snorkeling/diving tour: we’d be on our own, using public transport… taking a (romantic) stroll by bicycle would also be nice though.
We’re into history, traditional architecture, but into animals, beaches and nature too: I fell in love with Ishigaki’s lush green vegetation 2 years ago (loved seeing mangroves for the first time!).
I could also try to snorkel if there are places that you’d recommend to beginners.
I’ve been considering exploring Kuroshima since it’s tiny and looks doable by bike, but maybe I’d better choose Taketomi or Iriomote (or somewhere else?)?!?
Any help would be highly appreciated. 🌺

I enjoyed the Nakama River Mangrove Cruise on Iriomote just because it is nothing like the rest of Japan. If you came from a country with Mangroves it might not be so interesting.
> Iriomote Island is covered with jungles and mangroves. On the banks of the Nakama River, which is famous for having one of the most robust mangrove forests in Japan, you may have a chance encounter with a blue hermit crab, which cannot be found anywhere else.

Also on Iriomote I enjoyed the tourist ride to Yubu Island in carts pulled by water buffalo.
