Hi everyone,
I'm currently based in Pakistan and recently completed my Bachelor's in Computer Science. I'm aiming to eventually move to Japan to work and settle there, and I would love some feedback on my plan to see if it's realistic and what pitfalls I should watch out for.
Here’s my current roadmap:
Step 1 (Now): Work in Pakistan for the next 2 years to gain experience and save money. I’ll likely be doing software-related work or something adjacent to game development to strengthen my profile.
Step 2 (In 2 years): Apply for a Master’s degree in Game Development in Japan. I'm looking into programs like the one at Tokyo University of Technology (or any other recommended Game Dev-focused university).
Step 3 (During those 2 years): Study Japanese on the side with a goal of reaching JLPT N4 or N3 level before applying, and continue improving while studying in Japan.
Step 4 (After Master's): Apply for a job in the Japanese game industry, and ideally work long-term, eventually applying for Japanese nationality if everything works out.
My questions:
-
How feasible is this plan in terms of visas, education, and job prospects?
-
Is N4 or N3 enough to get started, or should I aim for N2 earlier?
-
Are there any scholarships or funding options I should look into besides MEXT?
-
How competitive is the job market for foreigners in the game dev field?
-
Would I be better off switching fields to get into the Japanese Industry?
Would really appreciate any advice, resources, or reality checks from people who’ve taken a similar path!
Thanks in advance!
