I enjoyed teaching English, 5+ years, been all over Japan, because I find it enjoyable and glad that I can be a part of student's education, whether they like English or not.
I've been laid off from my previous job and been looking for employment ever since. Denied unemployment insurance at Hello Work after submitting the required documents and attended a seminar about it; left on good terms with the last job.
I barely have enough money for 1 more month of rent or so. The rest is going to paying bills and groceries. Imagine spending 2,500 yen a week on groceries, that's the situation I'm in; about 357 yen a day just to survive. That includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I could skip meals if I was really desperate.
Continuing to pursue an English teaching position isn't an option anymore. Let alone other kinds of work due to certain requirements for a specific work visa.
After some thinking and given my situation now, the best option for me is to return back to my country to find employment there instead of being in a bad situation in a foreign country. It's hard to get a good night's sleep due to the cold weather.
I've lived in Japan before and been able to find employment in a couple of weeks or a month, but this time there are NO jobs available out there given my work experience and other hands on skills.
For those who want to come to Japan teaching English, I'd say reconsider your future there if you plan to stay long term. I may be roasted for my post, but this is one experience out of thousands of English teachers in Japan.
"357 yen a day just to survive. That includes breakfast, lunch, and dinner." let that sink in…….. when it comes to not being able to find employment, let a teaching position, in Japan.
I've learned my harsh lesson and I'm at fault for all the decisions I've made so far.
I take full responsibility and I only blame myself.
Time to go home with my head up high with all the memories of the friends I've made here (Japanese and foreign), the students I've taught, other English teachers I've talked with, former Japanese coworkers, and the many new places I've visited. If you're reading this, maybe I've interacted with you in Japan at some point in the past.
Thank you very much for your time reading this wall of text out of your busy day or day off from work.
Have a good one!
