There is often discussion here about the stagnant wages, but there are always a few people who are surprised when we bring up that things actually aren't stagnant — they've actively gotten worse. This comment from u/okregister444 is proof.
Straight from their 2011 contract offer from Interac:
<Conditions> Duration: April 5 2011 to March 23 2012 Time: 8:30-17:00 Salary: Y 240,000 (Monthly base salary) + Y 20,000 (Attendance bonus)+Y 5000 (JLPT N2)+transportation Monthly base salary and attendance bonus will be prorated if the ALT does not complete a full-month. Salary in Dec will be 75% due to the winter break and August will be 60% due to the summer break.
Interac 2025: 215,000 base pay, no attendance bonus, no Japanese bonus, nothing. Prorated in March/April. Bunch of "workdays" thrown onto the calendar in which they can call you in for any BS that they see fit. As of right now, transport is still covered.
So not only have wages becoming worth less and less due to rising costs, but the physical number being printed on your check has gone lower!
Yet, people keep lining up to come here anyways regardless of how low into the ground things go, so the enshittification has been allowed to continue.
