A giant Buddha statue in Konan, Aichi Prefecture, has become a popular spot after photos of it with “sunglasses” went viral on social media. The statue, affectionately known as the “Buddha of Hotei,” was built in 1954 and is one of the largest privately owned Buddhas in Japan. It is illuminated during public safety campaigns to raise awareness about crime in the area.
