For some context I am a US citizen, and I applied for a long term resident visa back in early February and it’s been more than 3 months at this point. I’ve heard there are many delays with the Tokyo immigration office, and I’m not exactly sure I’ll receive my COE in time to enter when I planned in June. My immigration lawyer informed me it might be possible to enter the country as a tourist, and to switch over to my visa once my COE arrives without having to leave Japan. I was wondering if there’s anybody who has done this and could let me know if it worked out smoothly, or if is something I should avoid doing.
