Probably most of you have attended at least a few training sessions with your current or previous companies before starting work at your school/s. Spring semester 2025 is almost here.
What was the ratio, about, when it came to the teachers from western countries, non-western countries, and gender?
From observation, in the past years, the teacher ratio was about 98% white male (some with Japanese wife or Japanese girlfriend), 1% women, and 1% non-white teachers. It varied between size of the company. It might not be the case for every company, but there are lot more teachers who look the part of being an English teacher.
Makes you wonder why that is, considering there are plenty of qualified teachers (some with experience and qualifications) who are non-white and/or female who are looking for a teaching position. It's a pattern that can be seen when the whole company comes together. And maybe from non-western countries. Yes, there are certain requirements such as education and degree, but there are English teachers from non-western countries.
In your experience, what was it like during training sessions when it came to teacher ratio?
Good luck to the teachers who may or may not have their contracts renewed for the next teaching semester.
