Wholesalers may be behind elevated retail rice prices

A government survey suggests that larger gaps between wholesalers’ procurement and selling prices for stockpiled rice may be contributing to high retail rice prices in Japan. The agriculture ministry aims to lower prices by bypassing wholesalers and selling stockpiled rice directly to retailers.
