Car insurance and typhoons… Best options for Okinawa?

Hello all,

Just bought a kei-car, and looking into insurance options, online (Sony Sompo, Rakuten, Saisons/Otona no jidôsha hoken) as well as more local (Daidô Kasai)

It's expensive, more than what we expected as it seems that typhoon insurance is only included in packages with sharyo hoken (insurance coverage for your own vehicule) policies. Not sure what to make of this…
Also, a lot of Okinawan drivers only have jibaiseki liability, so their car is basically uninsured, which does increase the need for sharyo hoken / comprehensive coverage of one's own vehicule (not to mention issues like hit-and-runs, theft…)

Even with tweaks (¥100k excess, restricting to us two as drivers etc), it's difficult to find anything less than 88,000 JPY per year (this is for a 2019 kei, two drivers over 35, just converted foreign licence so green).

What are people using here, and how much are you paying for policies including typhoon damage + lawyer coverage?

Or do you choose to go without sharyo hoken and cover any typhoon damage, and damage to your car if the other driver is uninsured, by yourself?

Lastly how was your experience if you've ever had to actually use it (claims) on island?

Thanks a bunch!
