7 days trip without a car

Hi! My boyfriend and I live in Osaka, and we are planning a trip to Okinawa for the first time this summer around the end of July. Since we don’t have a drivers license, we were wondering if any of the smaller islands were doable by foot/if it was easy to find bike rentals.

We are just planning to relax, go to the beach and eat good food. Cultural attractions are a plus !

I found some answers on this Reddit but they were from years ago, so I’m asking again.

Thank you!

  1. Miyako and Ishigaki are better than mainland Okinawa if you don’t have a car

  2. I’d say the smaller islands like Tokashiki, or any of the keramas might be doable…? But 7 days on an island that can be done on bikes wouldn’t be fun after the first day or two unless you want to keep going to the same beach every day.

  3. You could do Naha on foot, bike or monorail as well. Outside of Naha is another story. Maybe break the trip up to a couple of islands. Inter-island flights are pretty cheap.

  4. You might try Yoron, which really should be part of Okinawa (I think it was of Ryukyu) and is really flat. I don’t know about bike rentals though.
