  1. Good. If she is following the rules then so should the hotel. Sometimes you have to punish someone to make them understand.

  2. Most of the time suing here is just to make a point. Courts rarely require payments of substantial sums of money to the injured party.

  3. I was about to say that due to foreigners being foreigners sometimes the hotel should have the right to check some sort of identification.

Then I clicked the link and was shown that this woman was a third generation resident which is basically a Japanese person (most likely spoke perfect Japanese), and even showed another form of proof of address cause who carries around a passport and the hotel had the audacity to still then decline her access to a room.

Yeah, hotel manager or someone had some power trip and deserves this suit.

  4. You’ll find foreigners hating on people like this, but it’s people like this that make things better for us.

  5. The linked article is missing many contexts which is reported in Japanese news.

This Korean resident of Japan has two names. Legal name(Korean name) and legal alias(Japanese name).

By law, hotel must let the guest fill a form for real name and address. She insist on using her legal Korean name. She show Health insurance card for the proof of her address. But the Health insurance card use her legal alias. She presented no proof for her Korean name is truly her legal name.

As such, hotel suggested her to just write down her legal alias which she refused. Since Hotel can’t knowingly take a guest who use fake name and they can’t confirm her legal name, they refused the service.

  6. Good, basically if foreign looking person provides local address and phone – hotel staff not allowed to ask ID actually., maybe look at menkyo at most for address verification

  7. Residents aren’t required to show any ID, we can just write our address. Hotel staff need to be trained on this and learn that not all Japanese people and residents look Japanese or have Japanese names.
