Japanese Emperor will visit Okinawa on 4-5 June – Travelers to Naha Airport can expect delays due to roadside security inspections and baggage inspections


From Okinawa Times: To coincide with the visit of Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress to Okinawa on June 4 and 5, the prefectural police will implement traffic restrictions on both days near Naha Airport. Roadside pick-ups and drop-offs will include baggage inspections and metal detectors.  According to the prefectural police, traffic restrictions will be implemented around Naha Airport and Itoman from 1 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on the 4th, and in Naha City and around the airport from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on the 5th. 

As a roadside security measure, it is required that baggage be placed in a plastic bag provided by the prefectural police and stored at your feet after the inspection.  According to prefectural police officials, more than 1,000 prefectural police officers are expected to be mobilized.
