I’m moving to Kyoto for exchange (six months) and want to fit some form of fitness classes in my budget. I usually do pole and pilates but these seem to be a lot more expensive in Japan vs Australia.. Kyoto pole is ¥4000 (vs ~$25) and Pilates is ¥5500 (vs -$20) for each class. Any recommendations for cheaper places or adjacent activities? Body weight / calisthenics activities are preferred, but I’m open to anything! Worried I’m going to lose all my skills by the time I’m back haha. Happy to take on classes taught in Japanese too!

Welcome to Japan where these kinds of things are usually private and thus you pay a premium. There are community centers but they won’t have pole or Pilates. You might look into either dance or maybe capoeira if you can find any classes at a community center or gym.
A very nice woman I know is an instructor in pole/aerial with a new studio near Keihan Shichijo, and lessons are 3,000 according to her site, but you can also rent studio time for cheaper. [https://chie-labo.net/school.html](https://chie-labo.net/school.html)
The main pole studio west of Kyoto station is actually only 2,200 yen if you buy the ticket for a pack of 10 classes. That’s how I’m able to afford going.
