Hi Im a Korean currently studying for my BS in South Korea.
Recently I've discovered a particular research lab at UTokyo and am hoping to do my Masters there. I want to apply through UTokyo's IME program since they provide classes in English.
About me:
– One of top3 schools in Korea, 3.2/4 GPA
– Fluent in English, Chinese, native Korean Speaker (I lived in China for about 5yrs before)
I've done some research on the IME program but wasn't able to find enough info. I would be very thankful if any of you with related experience would kindly be able to help me out here.

How hard is the admission project in general? I couldn't find info on how many students apply and what fraction of em are qualified.

Is it challenging to get the MEXT UTokyo recommendation? The website states that about 10 students are awarded this scholarship every year. No idea how challenging it is

Should I contact the professor prior to my admission? If the MEXT by UTokyo recommendation goes south, Im planning to apply for the MEXT w/ embassy recommendation. The later states that I should not contact the professor before hand, wondering when to contact him.
