Yea, the locals there lost their bath to the tourist hype.
This place is incredible, and very special. Please be respectful and deferential when visiting. It’s a really precious, uniquely historical piece of history that you can enjoy.
It’s not about foreigners vs Japanese, just be respectful of the local customs and don’t be an ass of yourself. Not that hard!
I for one am pleased that sento culture is catching on with foreigners.
