Why would you choose to pursue the Mext scholarship over something like A-levels? I’m a Kosen applicant struggling to convince my parents its a good path to stride. [Malaysia]

In your opinion, why should I choose this scholarship over taking for example, A-levels? For context, the MEXT KOSEN scholarship I'm applying to is a full-ride scholarship where I'll be sent to Japan to learn the language for a year, transfer to a college of technology for 3 years, and then possibly extend the scholarship and transfer to a degree for 2 years. From what I've heard its most common that students end up at national universities after the college.

I really want to accept this scholarship if I manage to get it, but my parents are convinced that taking A-levels is a better option, as there are more opportunities as an A-level graduate. Most of the world now looks more highly upon degrees from the UK/US/Australia, and A-levels gives me a chance at those creme de la creme unis like MIT/Harvard/Oxbridge..

Personally I feel like my chances of entering those Ivy league level unis are not too high, and that accepting the scholarship will lead to a happy life and good-enough job prospects as well.. Albeit maybe not as high-end compared to if I were to graduate from MIT…

So, can you think of any counter-arguments for me?
