Would you want Jon Moxley in the G1?

Mox is presumably losing the AEW title to Hangman at All In on July 12, a week before the G1. It’s also a staple of AEW booking for the ex champ to be off TV for a while after losing the title. Theoretically, he would be available to do the G1.

On one hand, he is probably the most protected AEW guy they could possibly send(4x AEW champ, 2x international champ). He’s the AEW ace. He also has a lot of history with NJPW. He could be a big draw if they added him.

On the other hand, people have been very down on his match quality in this current run and his IWGP title run was received poorly.

So, if Mox is available, would you want to see him in the G1?

  1. Yeah, taking him away from the Riders bollocks he’d be a fun inclusion, I can only imagine him doing much better work in the G1 then in his AEW top heel gimmick.

  2. Even if he lost the AEW title, he’d still be so massively protected in the booking that it would hamper my enjoyment of the tournament

  3. The reign hasn’t been the best match quality wise. I feel he needs a bit of a break compared to the grueling G1 schedule.

  7. Probably not this current version of him. He definitely had his best matches when he was in the G1 years ago but that time has passed I think.

  8. If he could bring the same fire he did in 2019 than sure. He was pretty protected in that one and it still worked out.

  9. Well as much as i enjoy his last NJPW run, sadly i dont see him do another long grueling G1.

  12. Nah. He already had one (average) run when he was signed to a NJPW contract and could actually take losses. Overall I don’t think they need any guest this year, there’s enough guys in the roster. No need to deal with some AEW backstage politics when NJPW needs to use this G1 to keep the momentum going for a lot of their younger wrestlers. Only thing they need is to finally add Hiromu to the G1.

    Based on? Dude’s clearly doing a cheap knockoff imitation of Roman Reigns and the Bloodline angle. Complete with 1,000+ day reign.

  15. I wonder if Mox will ever go on his vacation he wanted to since the time the CM Punk mess went down. AEW has many people i would love to see in the G1 who aren’t as protected. I would be hyped for Josh Alexander or Kyle Fletcher joining the tournament.

  18. I loved his first G1 run so if that’s the vibe and he gets the chance to reset himself a bit then I’d be for that

    Having said that, would Mox be in the same block as Shota? I can not see a reason to add him if not to progress the Shota evolution… and doing that, would it really be worth pulling a G1 spot from a native?

  20. I would not mind as I enjoyed his past stints and don’t watch AEW so I don’t hate his whole deal. WITH THAT SAID, not my first pick since it’s already happened. Would much rather see someone new get the spot fhan rehashing an old entrant.

  27. I think if he worked the G1, he would definitely be motivated to do good work AND have the luxury of not needing to work as a stifling, suffocating heel as he currently is in AEW.

    I don’t have an issue with another Mox G1 run, provided he has good matches and there’s a point to it and he’s not hogging up space that could be better utilized by someone else. And he is free to take losses if the booking necessitates that he take losses.

  28. The best match of his IWGP title reign was against EVIL and he looked like he couldn’t be arsed against Shota of all people.

    I could probably make a full G1 out of AEW guys I’d prefer to see

  29. There’s a few guys AEW should send. Off the top of my head…Bowens, Sammy Guevara, wheeler Yuta could benefit from it. Maybe Claudio, Brody King, Darby Allen, for some star power. And anybody who’s currently on the undercard/ROH.

    But Mox has been there, done that.

  30. Yes? Feels like he needs a period of renewal and this could be that for him. Not my top choice but it might be good for him.

    Put Bowens in the G1, at least what would be somewhat nice.

  34. I enjoyed his 2019 run but right now he’s kinda lost his groove. If they have an ARW rep besides Takeshita there a lot of guys o would prefer over him.
