U.S. Marine sentenced to seven years for sexual assault in Okinawa

Article text:
Naha – Naha District Court on Tuesday sentenced a 22-year-old U.S. Marine to seven years in prison for nonconsensual sexual intercourse resulting in injury to a woman in Okinawa Prefecture in May last year.

The sentence compares with prosecutors' request for a 10-year prison term for U.S. Marine Lance Cpl. Jamel Clayton. During his trial, Clayton asserted his innocence, claiming that he did not try to have sex or commit violence.

According to the indictment, Clayton assaulted the woman for sexual purposes, putting his arms around her neck and choking her from behind. She suffered injuries that took about two weeks to heal.

In a similar sexual assault case in Okinawa, a 26-year-old U.S. airman was sentenced to five years in prison last December. The defense has appealed the ruling.

  1. Get these fckn sailors and marines outta there. They’re not representing us and those local people see us in a poor light.

The foreigners who live there already face stigmatism because of this bullshit

  2. Putting arm around neck of woman gets man 7 years. I wish I could actually see what happened, but how it’s written makes it seem like a too harsh of punishment.

  3. Jamel, no surprise at all. Have noticed the military recruits ghetto people nowadays. At the base near me, they run around claiming to be in gangs and claiming to be selling drugs

  4. It’s always the crayon eaters. They are the first ones to serve their lives, of course they are all fucked in the head with all kids of ways

  5. I was ready to hate on this guy but then I googled his case. It’s not like he found a random stranger on the street and targeted her for sexual assault. He was in the home of her boyfriend (another service member) at their invitation. There were no witnesses. His defense is that her boyfriend actually domestically assaulted her and she blamed the defendant. 10 years in prison seems like a lot for a crime with such little evidence.

  6. There are USA military bases all over Japan. Why do we only hear about this with marines in Okinawa ?

  7. 外人が起訴されること自体珍しいのに、懲役なんて超希少だな
