hi everyone, my girlfriend and i currently live in the united states and are planning on moving to japan within the next year or two. right now, we understand that we would not be able to get a spouse visa for either of us due to same-sex marriage not being legalized in japan.
however, were trying to find answers on whether we’d need separate visas or if there was a way one of us could get a visa through the other without it necessarily being a dependent visa?
we have yet to speak with an immigration lawyer due to money but were planning on it soon. we aren’t married yet and we don’t mind waiting a little longer to get married if it would help our visa situation more.
we don’t know for how long we’ll stay, were thinking about a year or two, but for sure no more than 5 years.
any help would be appreciated, thank you!
edit: we are both 18 at the moment! were planning on being around 20 or 21 by the time we move!
