Hi! My fiancée (Japanese citizen) and I have recently moved back to Japan together, and given our lack of options, have opted to marry so I can stay with her.
Since we still wanted to have somewhat of a celebration, we've kicked the can towards the end of how long tourist visas allow me to stay, so that my family can join.
I did this under the impression that I would be able to transfer to a spouse visa without leaving the country, as I was assured was the case (woe is me for not double checking).
Now, however, I'm faced with the fact that flights have already been purchased and my 180th day in Japan will be shortly after we're married.
Is there any way for me to stay with her or will we have to spend some time apart while the paperwork gets sorted? Thanks for any help!
