  1. this is brought up so many times and yet I don’t know a single scenario where it would be confused v.v

edit: I meant this exact example not pitch in general, I never said pitch wasn’t important or anything like that either

  2. Funny anecdote about pitch accent (nobody asked for but w/e):

My Japanese teacher taught me a fun mnemonic to remember the pitch difference between 飴 and 雨。She said to imagine that *rain* ***falls*** (so あめ↘) but you ***lift*** *candy into your mouth* (so あめ↗). I’ve never gotten them mixed up ever since!

For 橋/箸、I try to imagine that a bridge ***rises*** *above* *the water* (はし↗) while you point chopsticks ***down*** *towards your plate* (はし↘) but sadly for some reason that mnemonic hasn’t stuck as well as the candy/rain one… *EDIT: I didn’t see but someone already beat me to the bridge one! lol*

    For 端・・・I’ve got nothing.

  3. Happened to me personally once. When I was in Yokohama last year, I asked the waitress to bring us chopsticks. Since I didn’t differentiate the two pitched versions of hashi, the waitress was confused by me for a sec but soon figured out. That moment I knew I messed up the pitch, and will never forget lol
