On July 4 in Osaka, Sanseito leader Sohei Kamiya gave a street speech to support a candidate in the Upper House election. During the speech, two masked individuals held a sign that said “Hate Group” and shouted things like “idiot” at him. Kamiya responded, saying, “This is what happens when educated not properly.”
He referred to a moment when former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe pushed back against hecklers during a Tokyo election, saying, “Abe once said, ‘We can’t lose to people like this.’ We won’t lose either.”
During his 25-minute speech, Kamiya also said about the hecklers, “You're really noisy without any proof.”
He told his supporters, “Wherever I go, some hecklers show up. It’s part of the Sanseito experience, so enjoy it.” He also criticized gender equality policies and LGBT rights, which drew loud applause from the crowd.
