Early voting for the upcoming House of Councillors (Upper House) election began on July 4 across Japan. The system allows voters who will be unable to cast their ballots on election day—due to work, travel, or other reasons—to vote in advance.
With election day, July 20, falling in the middle of a three-day holiday weekend, election commissions nationwide are urging citizens to take advantage of early voting to avoid potential crowding or scheduling conflicts.
As of July 3, a record 6,905 early voting locations have been set up, surpassing the 6,169 used during the previous Upper House election three years ago.
Early voting is generally available daily through July 19, from 8:30 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
