What’s the deal with Takanawa Gateway Station?

I know it's a big development area, with various offices, residential areas, etc. But as of now, mid-July, is it worth visiting and walking around a bit?

I am planning a Friday evening dinner with a friend and wonder if the station/area has decent restaurants and a decent vibe. If the area is still largely under construction then I fear it's still a lot of unfinished areas and therefore not worth visiting.
