Asahi Newspaper and University of Tokyo Site to Help Decide Candidate to Select

Isn't actually a news but found a site that offers voters to select candidate to vote for. It's all in Japanese but just wanted to show existence of such a site.

This content is based on data from the "Asahi–University of Tokyo Joint Survey," a candidate questionnaire conducted by The Asahi Shimbun and Professor Taniguchi's lab at the University of Tokyo, asking national election candidates about their views on key policy issues.

It calculates how closely a user’s answers match each candidate's answers by measuring the "distance" between them for each question. A perfect match across all answers equals 100% alignment, while completely opposite answers score 0%.

For political parties, the match rate is calculated by comparing a user's answers to the average responses of candidates from each party. This comparison includes the 10 major parties that held seats in the National Diet at the time the election was officially announced.

Note: In calculating "distance," responses like "Agree" and "Neutral," or "Somewhat agree" and "Somewhat disagree," are considered equal in terms of distance.

In political science, not just distance but also the "direction" of agreement or disagreement is often emphasized. For questions that are important to you, be sure to also check whether the direction of the candidate’s or party’s stance aligns with your own.
