
In Japan’s 27th Upper House election, officially announced on July 3 with voting set for July 20, candidate registration closed at 5 p.m. A total of 522 candidates filed to run—350 for district races and 172 for proportional representation.
This is slightly fewer than the previous 2022 Upper House election, which had 545 candidates (367 district, 178 proportional).
