  1. Smoked salmon really doesn’t have the same flavor as sushi. It’s too seasoned. Great on a bagel with cream cheese, capers, red onion, tomato, and salt… absolutely not sushi though, do NOT wrap that in rice and nori, especially as your introduction to homemade sushi.

  2. Smoked salmon is salt cured, so it will be much saltier than typical salmon sashimi. Only really used in Philly rolls, and in small amounts.

Try to find an Asian grocery nearby with a good fish department and see if they have flash frozen sashimi-grade fish if you want proper sashimi or nigiri.

  3. There’s a specific roll that uses lox and cream cheese. I enjoy it occasionally

  4. Sushi is the rice. Smoked salmon might not be traditional, but I’m sure it’ll be delicious.

  5. If your heart is set on smoked salmon or you can’t get anything else in your area then try making a Philadelphia roll. It’s tasty, certainly not a roll id recommend binging but will taste good.
