Exprired medicines – are they really just packed in a separate plastic bag and discared as moeru gomi?
I have been googling and this is what I got so far.
That can't be right…
I worked as a pharmacist back home and I simply can't believe this. Pharmacies are legally required to take back any unused/expired medicines as they are disposed of differently compared to a communal waste – there are controlled methods of disposal to prevent any enviromental risk and health hazards.
Any chance that moeru gomi gets separated and any drugs disposed this way are then processed accordingly?
Given how Japan is obsessed with rules and safety, I simply can't believe that medicines are disposed as moeru gomi… what is it that I am missing and I am not aware of?
