Can dismissed cases affect COE or visa for japan?

Hello,

I have 4 acquittal decisions (not guilty verdicts) in my name.
I'm planning to apply for a COE and student visa for Japan.
Will these cause any problems?

(The charges were fraud-related. A close friend of mine scammed someone and gave my name to avoid the blame. I was charged just because I knew him — but I was acquitted. He is currently in prison.)

I also have one ongoing case that will be finalized in January — I'm 100% confident I’ll be acquitted in that one too.

My criminal record is clean — I was never convicted, arrested, or imprisoned.

Any advice or similar experiences would be really appreciated!

  1. Generally, if you’re acquitted, it means it didn’t really occur. So should be fine… but damn, what a ‘friend’ That was

  2. It depends on your state, but mostly it just depends on your background check. I did mine in California or something, but it didn’t show my arrest on the results. Mine never went to court, I pled not guilty and the prosecutor dropped it.
