Steel and aluminum tariffs remain unchanged at 50% in U.S.-Japan tariff negotiations

In the Japan–US trade talks, tariffs on steel and aluminum will remain at the current 50%. Japan’s Economic Revitalization Minister Ryosei Akazawa said on July 22 (US Eastern Time) that “steel and aluminum are not part of this deal.”

This statement came after President Trump and Japan agreed to lower tariffs on cars and other goods. Akazawa spoke to reporters in Washington, D.C. after the agreement was reached.
