On the 17th, Tomigusuku Police Station arrested a 33-year-old carpenter, who identifies as an Australian national, on suspicion of breaking and entering and attempted theft. He's accused of unlawfully entering and searching the interior of the Yomochi Shrine in Ōnoyama, Naha City. The suspect reportedly denies the charges, stating, "I just opened the door and peeked inside."
The arrest stems from an incident between approximately 2:55 AM and 3:00 AM on the 15th, when he allegedly broke into and searched the shrine. According to Tomigusuku Police, the shrine's 50-year-old male chief priest reported that "the door was destroyed." Police are investigating, believing the man broke in to steal money or valuables, as the shrine's door lock was damaged.
