  1. That seemed kind of low but looking at the chart only 2% said they don’t think immigration contribute.

  2. It’s good that the Japanese public hasn’t been contaminated by the xenophobia of the MAGA movement.

  3. Immigrants are a “cheat code” to get active working people you didn’t have to spend a dime on via education, healthcare costs, etc. Nobody denies that.

The issue is that if you introduce too many of them too fast and give zero incentives for them to integrate, you’re gonna have problems.

It’s a nuanced matter that’s hard to discuss in an era of polarization where people pretend the only ways are either sakoku or open borders for everyone.

Also, for whatever reason everyone ignores the long term aspect of the matter.

  4. I’m actually shocked it is so low, but to be fair only 2% came out and said “I don’t think so”.

  5. You would hope it’s near 100%, usually immigrants are young and work – compared to the 30% of japanese who are retired and actually dont contribute anything.

  6. This is kind of a pointless poll. Of course immigration helps the economy. No one is arguing otherwise. The question is whether it’s worth the non-economic risk.

  7. Take 1 look at any Western European nation to see how the short-term boost is very quickly being recognised as a long-term drain (in regards to low skilled migration)

  8. Itou from Columbia choosing そう思う and then commenting “I strongly believe so”.

    they’re not sending their best

  9. Considering the fairly strict visa rules mostly pointing to having to work/contribute to the economy, to even be able immigrate to Japan, I feel like that percentage should be considerably higher.. Unless they don’t know the requirements
