Was just commenting on the complaint thread about a short form SNS video where a woman tells people which onsen don't have any foreigners, making it easier to avoid us. Of course the comments were very thankful and/or complaints about outsiders. Got me thinking though, I haven't actually been to onsen in many years. One time I saw a band-aid floating in front of me, and that was the end for me.
I do have one story that I sometimes share. Was hiking in inaka and wanted to soak afterward to wind down. Just me and a very old man with big glasses. The weird thing was there was another man in a suit waiting at the edge of the water very quietly, just observing. The old man finally gets out of water and classic criminal organzation tattoos run from his neckline down down to the ankles. The suit man immediately hands him a towel and they leave. No tattoos…unless you're connected apparently.
So, do you like onsen? Why or why not?
What's your story?
