Chinese climbers increased climbing Mount Fuji; numbers decreased earlier due to “prophecy rumor” but increased after the prophecy date; some turned away due to new climbing rules

Mt. Fuji is packed with climbers as summer vacation begins, with a huge increase in tourists from China and Taiwan. Earlier this month, a fake rumor on social media about a disaster in Japan on July 5th caused a sharp drop in Chinese and Taiwanese visitors, but now they're back in full force.

The Yoshida trail on Mt. Fuji, which had over 1,400 reservations, saw a 13.4% decrease in climbers in early July due to the "prediction." However, since the prediction didn't come true, foreign climbers, especially from China and Taiwan, are returning. Many are excited to climb for the first time or to enjoy the views they've seen in popular media.

New regulations are in place this year to prevent "bullet climbing" (climbing without a break or overnight stay). Hikers without mountain hut reservations can't enter the Yoshida trail between 2 PM and 3 AM. Despite this, some tourists, unaware of the rules, are being turned away.
