I'll be in Kyoto next year from February to August. My girlfriend is doing an exchange there and I'll join her while working freelance.
I'd like to take a Japanese language course, but most I've looked at are designed to be quite intense and get you fluent fast, aimed at full-time students or cultural visitors. I'll mostly work flexible full-time hours so investing 20h+ per week into studies + homework isn't possible for me.
I'm also not looking to get fluent fast, but rather get a boost over my self-studying and being able to break out of N5 level to survive while in Japan. Any tips?

This is something that Kyoto lacks. But, you can go to KoKoKa. It’s the international house located near Keage Incline. They offer a chance to talk in Japanese with volunteers. It’s only around 200 yen each time but results may vary.
is that a digital nomad visa?
