Compared to my country it just has conrete most of the time with no greenery which adds to the illusion of it being clean.

There are plenty of cheaply-built and now dilapidated buildings and houses in Japan.
There are a couple of houses near my in-law’s house in Tokyo that are largely made of corrugated iron. They look derelict, except for the fact the lights are on at night and the position of the bicycles parked outside changes.
