Japanese man arrested in Malta for serial cat abuse and killing – admits guilt

In Malta’s coastal town of Sliema, a Japanese man has been arrested for repeatedly abusing and killing cats. Local reports say at least five cats were found dead, some mutilated, in what’s being described as a shocking crime in a country often called “the paradise of cats.”

CCTV footage showed the suspect violently attacking a cat named “Poopa,” beloved by residents, who was found dead the next day. Police later found latex gloves and cat food matching items seen in the footage. The suspect resisted arrest, injuring two officers.

He admitted guilt during a court hearing on August 2, and sentencing is expected in September. An online petition is calling for the maximum penalty.
