It’s the first Obon after my father has passed

Thank you in advance,
I'm Mexican American and my fiancee is Japanese. This will be the first year after my father has passed (May 2024). I'm not sure how to navigate Obon. Do I treat it like an ofrenda? I have a picture of him and his favorite beer in my entrance. I like to let him know when I get home and leave. But is there anything else I should do for obon? He was Buddhist. But never practiced around us (catholic). There are those flowers that they sell but should I get those?

I'm not Buddhist so I'm at a loss. And the ceremony that my fiancee's family was cancelled because of the heatwave. Any advice would be great. My plan is to make some of his favorite foods and send him a prayer. Tell some stories about him… But he was Buddhist so I wonder if that's enough. Any advice would be great.

My father was a great and private man but…man…I miss him. I just want to do what I can for his faith.
