On the 17th, the Aichi Prefecture Police at Chubu Airport filed charges against a 36-year-old company employee from Okazaki City for violating waste disposal laws. He left an empty suitcase (weighing 3.5 kg) at Chubu Airport, according to reports.
According to the report, the man left the suitcase in a walkway at the airport’s Terminal 2 on the morning of June 12th. He admitted to the charges. Officers on patrol found the suitcase and identified the owner using an old baggage tag attached to it.
The man left the suitcase because he missed the check-in deadline for his flight. He took the contents with him onto the plane with a travel companion, leaving the suitcase behind.
Last year, there were 185 cases of unattended items at the airport, mostly bags. Authorities are urging people not to leave items unattended to avoid potential security concerns.
