Hello. I have some questions about the Working Holiday Visa in Japan, but it's quite a specific situation so I can't find much information online. I will be contacting the consulate/embassy in my home country soon but I'm currently abroad so I thought I'd ask here first, in case anyone's been in a similar situation.
Basically I'm going to get a working holiday visa and go to Japan start of 2026. I know the visa is mainly for tourism, cultural exchange, not full-time work or full-time study because that requires a different visa- that's fine.
The thing is, whilst I have this year of freedom (e.g. not having to work full time in a crazy stressful job) I want to do a training course, a majority of which will be online (for example a 3 hr lesson every other Saturday and Monday) which is provided by an organisation in a different country OUTSIDE of Japan, it's not a university, it's not a masters or a degree, it's just a diploma/certificate. It will require me to leave Japan for three weeks for a face-to-face module, but is otherwise predominantly taught online.
Is this legal? Is it within the remit of the visa? My primary reason for being in Japan will not be study, but for tourism with the occasional online lesson and trip out of the country….I realise this is a bit complicated but just wondered if anyone's done something similar?
Edit: do you think I should mention it in my WHV application?
