  1. I’m trying to get Yomitan to work with vertical text, but it won’t group the characters together, each character is on it’s own text field and it only looks up one character at a time. I’m using Yomitan on Firefox. The manga has been processed with mokuro and mokuro2pdf. I’ve tried several different browser PDF readers. I can’t figure out where the problem lies. Any assistance in figuring this out is appreciated. Thanks.

  2. What are the terms for “prescriptivism” and “descriptivism” in 日本語?なんかグーグルに出てくれない

I have a few questions about this one.

    1. why is 問いてない spelled like that? From what I understand of te-form of う should be 問って but It appear I am misunderstanding something?

    2. I think “よい子はまね しないでね!” means something like “Good kids are not copy cats” but I don’t understand why で is there. I know it can be used to describe a state but I don’t know why it is at the end of the sentence there.

    3. taking an educated guess, “でも、ただ 教わるんじゃ おもしろく ないだろう?” means something like “well just teaching you wont be very interesting, right?” but I have no clue what んじゃ is suppose to mean in that sentence.

I feel like I should not have so many questions from 2 children manga panels.

  4. Can someone help me understand this sentence? フォーマルのドレスの事なんだけど、スーザンから連絡があったよ。I thought it might mean “I want to talk to you about formal dresses, but I got a call from Susan.”, but google says it means “I got a call from Susan about formal dresses.” and I’m struggling to see how it means that.

  5. Just finished a 362 page long novel in about 20 days, comparing that to my last one (225 pages in a month) I keep progressing a lot

  6. Couldn’t find a free source for season 2 of 昨日何食べた but found one without an English sub and just watched for the hell of it. And Oh my god I could only understand like 20% of the conversations.

I don’t really have a problem understanding the gist of basic vlogs and simple podcasts but natural japanese is just so complex without subtitles. I need a lot more exposure.

  7. Hi, am I the only one having problems opening Tae Kim’s grammar guide? I don’t know why but recently whenever I open it it just says the site can’t be reached.

  8. I’ve just started, where do you guys suggest I start and where do I stick with?
