The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry announced that the renewable energy surcharge will be 3.98 yen per kilowatt-hour for the 2025 fiscal year. This change means that, starting April 1, many households will see their electricity bills go up again. For the second year in a row, the surcharge has increased, costing an average household about 1,592 yen per month or 19,104 yen per year.
