On October 12, two Chinese men in their 30s residing in Tokyo and Shiga Prefecture were rescued after getting stranded on Mount Tokachi in Daisetsuzan, Hokkaido. According to the Asahikawa East Police Station, the men began their hike at 4 p.m. and reached the summit by 6:15 p.m. They started descending but reached a mountain hut midway and contacted the police at around 6:50 p.m., stating that they were too exhausted to continue. The Hokkaido Police Mountain Rescue Team rescued them, and fortunately, they were not injured. The men were lightly equipped and did not carry water or food. The police urge hikers to use adequate gear, match their plans to their experience and fitness levels, and make sure to descend while it is still daylight.
