McDonald’s x Pokémon Happy Meal: measures to stop resale already announced on flea market sites… Chinese sites have posts asking other users to eat Happy Meal to just obtain Pokémon cards

On August 8th, McDonald’s locations in Tokyo were extra lively as many people came to buy Happy Meals featuring Pokémon toys. This special collaboration between McDonald’s and the popular anime Pokémon includes toys of beloved characters like Pikachu, available for about three weeks. Fans, including children on summer vacation, eagerly got their desired Pokémon toys.

Starting on the 9th, a special offer will include two Pokémon trading cards with the Happy Meals, spiking interest on social media with people planning to visit early. Some buyers are even considering purchasing in advance to have a backup in case they can’t buy the next day.

A concern has arisen over people reselling these toys at high prices. To combat this, McDonald’s partnered with Mercari, a popular resale site, to monitor and remove suspicious listings. Despite these efforts, toys and cards appeared on resale sites for high prices.

In response to the resale issue, McDonald’s will limit purchases to 5 Happy Meals per person during the offer period and urged people not to buy for profit or order more than they can consume. Additionally, unusual requests for help to eat large quantities of food have surfaced on Chinese social media, as people try to collect more Pokémon cards.
