I travelled to Japan for a month as a 16m

So, around 10 months ago, I asked people on this subreddit for tips on how to book hotels and whatnot as a solo minor, and I got an overwhelming response along the lines of “too young, don’t bother.”

Well. I did go, and it was a great success. Here are my tips:
– Ask the hotel you want to stay in whether you can stay as a minor (and ask for a parental consent form) via email.
– If you don’t see a parental consent form on the English version website, chances are, the Japanese version will have the form you’re looking for.
– Chain hotels are usually your best bet (e.g. Sotetsu Fresa Inn, Hotel Mystays etc.).
– You should probably forget about capsule hotels though (most require you to be 18+ to stay there solo if I remember correctly).

Oh and travelling solo is a great experience, so I’d highly recommend others to try it as well.

  3. Good for you. This goes to show that you should never make important life decisions based off of Reddit advice. It’s good for recommendations on where to go or what to do, but don’t forget to think for yourself.

  4. It’s a good lesson that while Reddit is a good place to gather info, you should never take it’s advice but trust in your own volition.

  5. Awesome but curious how did you convince your parents to let you travel for an entire month in a foreign country?

    I mean I get it, theyll fund the trip but insane to me to think any parent would let their kid on an adventure at this age without any supervision

  8. That’s cool but you missed out on hitting up the club till like closing at 5 am and seeing all the degenerates from the aftermath in the streets 😂

  9. Just curious if you paid for the trip yourself or did your parents fund it for you? I’ve seen lots of of people started earning money at a very young age so was just wondering.
