So partner & I booked first trip to Japan after over a decade of wanting to go. Tickets & time off acquired. Only issue now is that I saw reddit singing Dormy Inns praises, so I looked those up & it looked within our budget! I had planned on staying at them most of my time in Tokyo, potentially going to different locations around the city to explore different neighborhoods. Shibuya, Ueno, Ginza, kanda etc.
Now, however I learned that the price for the room is per person. The cheapest Dormy inn I can find, an express in asakusa is about 120 USD a night for 2, which is managable. The spa at this dormy inn though, which was a big selling point for us, is men only most of the week for this specific express location. This doesn't work for us, so now im thinking I should just give up on the dormy inn idea altogether.
I was going to start booking hotels this weekend & really start planning days in each neighborhood but my plans are suddenly foiled. I am now pretty concerned we have 14 nights in the country and might have to spend the majority of them at a capsule hotel or something.
We cannot afford 30k yen (~200 USD) a night, we don't even spend that much when traveling domestically. I really thought dormy inn was a cheaper chain. I guess im just venting at this point, but does anyone have any recommendations for a chain of hotels that has private bathrooms, multiple locations around tokyo & is closer to 15000 yen for 2 people/night? I suppose a sauna is just out of our price range, lol. maybe we'll splurge one night. Thanks in advance!
EDIT: traveling 11/24-12/7. I will do plenty of research on posts already made & reset my expectations, post is blowing up a bit more than I expected. Half of it was just venting because I have to start my research phase of the hotel planning over again, but ill be fine. Thanks for your help everyone
